Peter George Named Chief Commercial Officer; Alan S. Cohen Appointed Chairman of Evolv Board of Directors; Jin Kim and Bob Eckel Join Advisory Board as New Members

BOSTON, April 10, 2019 – Evolv Technology today announced the appointment of four key members to leadership positions. The expanded leadership team will enable the company to meet the growing demand for its AI-powered security screening solutions that detect bombs and weapons. Evolv named Peter George chief commercial officer, named Alan S. Cohen as chairman, Evolv board of directors and added Jin Kim and Bob Eckel to the Evolv advisory board.

According to Gun Violence Archive, there were 340 mass shootings in the U.S. alone in 2018. Globally, thousands of civilians have been injured or killed in attacks and bombings on soft targets, such as sporting events, concerts, places of worship, and hotels. Traditional security screening solutions, like the metal detector, rely on technology developed in 1881 and are not designed to detect today’s bombing and gun threats in high-volume venues – impacting customer service and creating bottlenecks that represent targets in themselves.

Evolv is leading the next generation of security and screening by combining advanced sensors with AI to instantly detect weapons, firearms, and explosives. By using advanced sensors and AI/machine learning technology, Evolv enables venues to seamlessly screen employees, visitors, and VIPs by just naturally walking through, without having them empty their pockets or bags. Evolv’s growing list of customers includes Lincoln Center, L.L.Bean, Gillette Stadium, and Oakland Airport.

“The mass shootings and terrorist attacks of the last several years have fundamentally altered how venues like concert halls, hotels, corporations and even places of worship view security. Metal detectors were never designed to discriminate between today’s modern weapons and metallic objects like cell phones that we all carry every day, let alone support large crowd capacity. This growing need is driving tremendous demand for Evolv’s advanced screening solutions,” said Mike Ellenbogen, CEO, and founder of Evolv Technology. “The deep security background brought by Jin and Bob, combined with Peter’s operational experience, and Alan’s proven company building expertise, is exactly the combination Evolv needs to scale operations and meet the tremendous demand we’re seeing for solutions that actually solve the active shooter and terrorist threats in real-world applications.”

“Evolv is actively reducing the active shooter epidemic in our society, having scanned over 10 million people last year,” Chairman of Evolv’s board of directors, Alan S. Cohen, commented. “The company’s unique convergence of AI with physical security makes it possible for security and venue managers to finally implement security screening without sacrificing the user experience. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this mission-driven company.”

EXPANSION OF EVOLV LEADERSHIP TEAM

As chief commercial officer, Peter George is responsible for driving Evolv’s customer-facing operations as the company continues to expand globally. With more than 30 years of experience leading successful cybersecurity companies, Peter plays a key role in helping lead the convergence of physical security with the digital world. Previously, he led two SaaS-based cybersecurity companies from pre-revenue to over $70 million in revenue. Before Evolv, Peter was president and CEO of a security analytics company, Empow Cybersecurity. Prior to that, Peter was president and CEO of Fidelis Cybersecurity, a leader in advanced threat defense, and president and CEO of Crossbeam Systems. He currently serves on the board of directors of cyber security companies, Flashpoint and Corero Network Security (LSE: CNS).

Alan S. Cohen has been appointed chairman of Evolv’s board of directors. Most recently, he was a board member and chief commercial officer at Illumio. A long-time enterprise tech veteran, Alan’s prior two companies, Airespace (acquired by Cisco for $450 million) and Nicira (acquired by VMware for $1.26 billion), were the market leaders in software-driven, cutting-edge technologies. Prior to Airespace, Alan held executive roles at Cisco and IBM. He is well known for his experience in marketing and organizational scaling in several industries including networking, security, SaaS and enterprise software. Alan also serves as an advisor at Cohesity, Mist Systems, and Netskope.

Former FBI special agent, Jin Kim, joins Evolv’s advisory board as a widely regarded subject matter expert and material practitioner in active shooter and workplace violence risk management. He served 23 years in the FBI, working as the active shooter coordinator on the Crisis Management Unit, and the leading authority directing active shooter and workplace violence risk mitigation and training for the FBI’s corporate programming and private sector partnerships. Jin now works as founder and principal of the PerSec Academy Advisory Group LLC, which specializes in active shooter and workplace violence risk management.

Bob Eckel joins Evolv’s advisory board as a secure identity solutions expert. An established executive for building and leading businesses, Bob will apply his deep experience in biometric systems to Evolv’s technology to improve both security and customer operations. Previously, he was regional president for North America Identity and Security at IDEMIA (formerly OT-Morpho), where he oversaw a $700 million business and successfully integrated four North American companies into a premier industry leader. He also held senior executive positions at L-1 Identity Solutions, Digimarc, and Raytheon.
